Based on a true story.
The Year is 1953 and the Masin family is persecuted for its bourgeoisie ancestry under communist ruled Czechoslovakia. Stripped of their assets, brothers Radek and Josef believe, like their father, a hero of the anti-Nazi resistance, that the only way to fight oppression is with guns in their hands.
The brothers, with their three friends, form an underground boy army that is responsible for a series of violent acts leading to an investigation by State Security Captain Koller, which results in the Masin Brothers becoming the most wanted men in the country. They attempt to emigrate to West Berlin to join the US Army and help liberate Czechoslovakia from the communists, but Captain Koller has not given up and mobilises a military operation, the size of which has not been seen since World War II, resulting in one of the largest manhunts in modern history.

As they fall in love, Helen’s zest for life returns but Joanne feels the walls close in as she faces something darker from her past. Helen’s world shatters when Gwen dies and Joanne’s painful memories make her flee.
